Timmins news: Mother of Kirkland Lake murder victim still waiting for answers

The mother of Lea Thompson, who was murdered last summer in Kirkland Lake, says she’s still waiting to find out exactly what happened to her daughter.

Ontario Provincial Police said Tuesday that Martyn Rosko, the man they believed killed Thompson and three other people in the community last summer, is dead.

Police found Thompson’s remains Aug. 8 of last year inside a Kirkland Lake residence. She was 33. Also inside was another victim, a 37-year old man named Kyle Robertson.

Tammy Thompson, Lea’s mother, said Rosko was her daughter’s boyfriend. A Facebook photo with him was taken the day before her daughter died.

Police still haven’t said exactly why the murders of Lea or the other three victims happened.

“And, like, I haven’t even got (the) autopsy report,” Tammy said.

Police told CTV News they have been working on the case for more than a year and have determined Rosko was responsible for the four murders – two discovered Aug. 8 and another two on July 30 of last year, also in Kirkland Lake.

“So our investigation continues. And as I mentioned, these are quite complex,” OPP Det. Insp. Ray St-Pierre told CTV.

“And time is needed to ensure that all those things are examined and that we, you know, we can give the public and the families the correct answers.”

Police said Rosko was taken into police custody on Aug. 6 on charges unrelated to the homicides and died after his arrest. But they said they can’t release any details about his cause of death.

Tammy Thompson said she’s meeting with police in a couple of days and hopes to get more details to also help put Lea’s 10-year old daughter’s mind at ease.

“I can’t get peace of mind and neither can she, because I can’t answer half her questions,” she said.

Police said the investigation continues and can’t reveal any other details. They said they will release more information to the families about the killings of their children as soon as possible.
