Ottawa crash leaves woman with critical injuries

Ottawa paramedics say a woman suffered critical injuries after a serious single-vehicle crash in the city’s east end on Saturday afternoon.

The crash happened at approximately 3 p.m. on St. Laurent Boulevard near the intersection of Innes Road.

There were no other injuries reported.

Dashcam footage sent to CTV News shows a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in the wrong direction before striking a hydro pole and damaging several others.

The crash caused power outages at nearby businesses in the area.

“We’re aware of a power outage in Alta Vista impacting 570 customers. The cause is a vehicle making contact with a primary conductor. Crews have been assigned and are on-site working to safely restore power as quickly as possible,” Hydro Ottawa said on X.

Ottawa police have closed St. Laurent Boulevard in both directions between Innes Road and Lancaster Road.

“Police are on scene directing traffic. Please avoid the area,” Ottawa police said in a social media post.
