Last year at Exchange, VettaFi interviewed Kent Peterson, CIO of Modelist. Founded by Joe Mallen in 2023, Modelist offers custom models primarily for RIAs and independent advisors, bridging a gap between in-house and outsourced.
“I think our firm differentiates itself by offering bespoke models at extremely low cost with very high quality IP,” said Peterson, highlighting how Modelist doesn’t put themselves up front. “There’s transparency, humility, and a really good quality product.”
According to Peterson, Modelist focuses on offering bespoke, quantitative models at a low cost. “I think we have a fabulous pedigree to offer to our clients,” he added. The relatively young firm consists of financial services veterans. Modelist seeks to give advisors some degree of customization and transparency that is normally unavailable for advisors who outsource their models.
The Modelist team has been a mainstay at Exchange. According to Peterson, they were drawn in by the opportunity to meet with both potential clients in the advisor world and ETF providers. “I have not been to a ton of conferences, I went to two [in 2024.]It’s much more low key. It’s good that there are experts coming from their particular firms and you can actually talk to them one-on-one.”
Exchange has become a networking hub for the entire financial community, making industry thought leaders accessible and showcasing upcoming innovations and ideas.
The legendary conference returns March 15 to Las Vegas. Financial services community members seeking to build and grow their practice should register soon and secure prime rates on hotels and flights.
