Get Multiple Market Themes in Active ETF SAMT

The investing landscape this year is marked by several crucial, competing, intertwined themes. AI looms over areas from robotics to electrification, space to semiconductors. Investors have embraced the ETF’s tradability and flexibility to construct layered exposures to capture that upside. However, by taking an active ETF approach, a fund like SAMT can capture multiple market themes in one strategy, catching performance and streamlining portfolios.

Key Takeaways:

  • The current market has some pretty powerful investing themes, not only in AI but in areas like robotics and electrification and more.
  • The ETF wrapper allows investors to construct overall portfolios bit by bit, but active now allows ETFs to invest across categories with much greater efficiency and often, upside.
  • SAMT offers a key example, nearing $700 million in AUM.

The Strategas Macro Thematic Opportunities ETF (SAMT) launched in 2022. The fund represents the culmination of its issuer’s research. The firm itself is marking 20 years of operation in 2026, with the ETF aiming to offer diversification across 3 to 5 market trends. SAMT’s active approach allows it to rotate between those themes and pick firms in which managers have the highest conviction.

Using the firm’s macro research capabilities, the strategy has risen to almost $700 million in AUM. Digging deeper, the strategy retains the flexibility to invest in U.S. stocks of any size if they fit into one of its target themes. The strategy equally weights those macro trends, with individual securities then identified within them.

Together, that has helped the active ETF deliver strong performances across market themes. The strategy has returned 40.6% over the last twelve months according to ETF Database data. It has also returned 29.09% over the last three year period, as well. That outperformed the fund’s ETF Database All Cap Category average in both those periods.

What kind of stocks, then, does SAMT currently hold – and what is its outlook? It holds leading tech names like semiconductor firm Marvell Technology (MRVL). SAMT also invests in consumer firms like Target Corp. (TGT) and space industry names like Rocket Labs (RKLB).

Overall, that active flexibility and deep focus on key market theme can make the fund a strong tool to add to portfolios. Rather than have to toggle in and out of themes with other ETFs, SAMT looks for the best from the strongest themes available, leveraging the ETF wrapper to produce for investors.
